SWIMMING POOLS

Swimming Pool Heat Pumps or Heat Exchangers

Heating your pool is not a necessity in the Lanzarote, you can use a solar pool cover, but to enjoy all year round use it is advisable as the water temperatures drop to about 19 degrees centigrade in the winter months.
There are various ways to heat swimming pools you can use solar mats, panels or a Heat Pump. These all use the suns energy although Heat Pumps are far more efficient in the winter than the solar mats or panels which struggle because of cloudy days and cold nights.

A heat pump indirectly uses the sun’s energy by extracting heat from the air. It uses the same principles as an air conditioner. Although there is a running cost associated with using this type of heater, it’s much less than most people think. As heat pumps work down to 5°C, pools can be heated the year round in a temperate climate making them perfect for the Lanzarote winters.

A swimming pool heat pump is an economical system to heat an outdoor swimming pool.
The operating principle is quite simple: the heat in the air is trapped and transferred to the swimming pool water. For one kWh consumed by its compressor, the heat pump restores 5 to the pool.
How and when to use a heat pump. For heating of outdoor pools during the mild seasons.  Nominal temperature is attained in 2 to 5 days by continuous filtering the pool water during the heating phase.
If you just want to extend your swimming season by just a few months in a warm comfortable pool, a swimming pool heat pump will give you the perfect water temperature without a big increase in your power bill.

It is advisable to buy a heat pump with a titanium water condenser as these are much stronger and as the water is desalinized in Lanzarote they are far superior against corrosion.

Pool Covers are a must. In my opinion you would be wasting your money if you didn’t use a pool cover in conjunction with your heating system as most swimming pool heat loss occurs at the waters surface and a pool cover will reduce this considerably as well as reducing the size of the pool heating system itself.
