postheadericon Carpentry update for the Pergola

LANZAROTE CARPENTERS

The pergola is now finished, we have installed the aluminium sliding roof panels and also the roller blinds that act as wind breaks.

The Blinds were supplied and fitted by Sol y Sombra S.L. based in Tias Lanzarote they specialise in all types of blinds, awnings and canopies. You can visit their web site at www.solysombrasl.com

We worked closely with the owner with the design of this project and I am very pleased with the finished result of the pergola project, it has combined the three different materials to reach the objectives of sun or shade when needed and to block the wind while retaining the incredible views from the terrace.

Natura Design -Lanzarote Builders

We have started to build the internal walls for the second villa and our electrician is installing the plastic conduits, plug and switch sockets for the electrics to be run through at the final stage of building, when the villas are nearly completed.

The plumbing has been installed for the first villa, below you can see the external junction box for the hot and cold water, the waist system for one of the bathrooms and the drain on the roof for the rain water.

It is far better to have internal water drainage from the roofs in the design and build of a new villa as the traditional water spouts that many new constructions have, often courses damp in the walls where the water runs down them.

On the first new villa construction we have built the parapets and screeded the roof, allowing sufficient fall for the water to drain away. This is a time consuming process but must be done correctly to ensure that there are no future problems concerning drainage and leaky roofs. It is also very important to finish the roofs before starting to plaster inside the villas as rain is inevitable this time of the year and the last thing you want is damaged plaster.

We then render the roof ready for the final finish of fiberglass and rubber paint.

The block work for the second roof is  underway and the aluminium company have arrived with the pre-frames which will be fitted before we render the exterior of the villas.

postheadericon Pto del Carmen Resort Rejuvenation

Puerto del Carmen – the hub of both the Lanzarote Property and tourist markets – is about to undergo a major face lift.  As island authorities press ahead with plans to “reinvent” tourism in the resort in a bid to maintain its competitiveness versus other, newer, holiday destinations.

Package tourism on Lanzarote first took off in and around Puerto del Carmen – transforming what was formerly a small fishing village called La Tiñosa into the most popular resort on the island.

But three decades of tourism have extracted a price in terms of eroding the resorts infrastructure.  Leaving Puerto del Carmen looking decidedly tired around the edges and out of date by comparison with newer, purpose built destinations in competitor markets such as Dubai.  A situation compounded by the poor provision for pedestrians on the main beachfront strip, the Avenuida de las Playas and the garish kaleidoscope of neon signage announcing bars, shops and restaurants.

Mindful of the adverse impact that this could have on visitor numbers island authorities are now progressing a number of initiatives that together are designed to contemporise Puerto del Carmen and improve the overall tourist offering in the resort.

Central to these plans is the creation of a new marina in the Old Town Harbour area.  Where work is already underway and is expected to be completed by May 2009.  With plans in place for the creation of jetties and berths for luxury yachts and cruisers.  A move designed to capitalise on the success of the nearby marina at Puerto Calero and which many local estate agents expect to impact positively on property values in the area over time – regardless of current market conditions.

Elsewhere, other initiatives include the part pedestrianisation of the Avenida de las Playas to redress the current imbalance between cars and pedestrians. And the harmonisation of shop fronts and fascias along the strip in order to improve the aesthetic image of the resort.

In tandem with the opening of the new golf course on the outskirts of Puerto del Carmen it is hoped that this multi million euro project will secure the resorts ongoing viability as a popular holiday destination.  And help maintain its appeal with overseas buyers looking to invest in an apartment or holiday villa in Lanzarote.

postheadericon Pergola – Carpentry by Natura design

This pergola has been built from top quality timber, we carefully inspect the grain of each piece of timber before purchasing it for straightness to reduce the chances of the beams bowing over their life time. This is important as practically all timber on the island has been naturally dried therefore it has a very high moisture content.

The pergola has been sealed using three coats of bondex and we have used fibre glass and rubber paint to waterproof the top.
